Lauren Wolfe, PsyD, licensed clinical psychologist

Life does not need to be in crisis for therapy to be useful.

Sometimes there is a clear reason to reach out: a relationship has changed, a health issue has emerged, work has become unsustainable, or the demands of parenting and caregiving have become difficult to carry.

At other times, life may look largely intact while something feels off. You may feel depleted, disconnected from yourself, uncertain about what comes next, or aware that patterns you have relied on are no longer working.

Therapy offers a place to step back, make sense of what is happening, and make thoughtful changes with greater clarity and intention.

Approach

A thoughtful and collaborative approach

My approach is warm, direct, and highly individualized. I do not believe in applying the same formula to every person.

Together, we work to understand the patterns, experiences, relationships, and pressures that may be shaping what is happening now. Therapy may involve making sense of a difficult experience, developing new ways of responding, changing habits that are no longer helpful, or clarifying what matters most in the next phase of life.

My work is grounded in evidence-based psychological treatment and informed by extensive experience in health psychology, psycho-oncology, behavioral medicine, motivational interviewing, and close collaboration with medical teams.

I aim for therapy to feel both emotionally meaningful and practically useful.

About

About Lauren

For nearly two decades, I have worked at the intersection of psychology, health, behavior change, and major life transitions.

Much of my career has focused on helping adults navigate cancer, chronic illness, medical uncertainty, caregiving, and the emotional impact of changes in health. I work in particular with women moving through significant life changes — including menopause, caregiving, demanding careers, and shifts in how they see themselves and their relationships. I have also worked extensively with people facing stress, relationship changes, questions of identity and purpose, and patterns involving alcohol or other health behaviors.

My professional background includes clinical leadership, psychologist training, psycho-oncology, women’s mental health, and consultation at the intersection of psychology and health.

Many of the people I work with are capable, thoughtful adults who are accustomed to managing a great deal. They may be functioning well in many parts of life while privately feeling overwhelmed, dissatisfied, disconnected, or uncertain about what needs to change.

I value depth, honesty, curiosity, and the kind of therapeutic relationship in which people feel genuinely known.

If this sounds like the support you have been looking for, I would welcome a brief conversation.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do you offer in-person appointments?

My practice is fully virtual by design. Meeting remotely lets you attend from wherever is most private and convenient — no commute, and less time away from work or family — and makes expert care available to adults anywhere in California.

Do you accept insurance?

The practice is private pay and does not bill insurance directly. On request, I can provide a superbill — a detailed receipt you may submit to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement, depending on your plan’s benefits.

What is your fee?

The fee is $325 for a 50-minute session, payable at the time of service.

Who do you work with?

I work with adults. Many clients are navigating stress, burnout, changing health, relationship or family challenges, parenting, caregiving, alcohol-related goals, or major life transitions.

Do you offer couples therapy?

The practice currently focuses on individual therapy.

How do I know whether we are a good fit?

A brief consultation allows us to discuss what is bringing you to therapy, what you are looking for, and whether my experience and approach seem appropriate for your needs.

How do I get started?

Use the consultation form or call 415-484-2050.

Is therapy confidential?

Therapy is confidential within the limits established by California law. More complete information is provided before treatment begins.

For Referring Professionals

For physicians and other referring professionals

I welcome referrals for adults whose emotional well-being is closely connected to their medical care, changing health, caregiving responsibilities, or broader life circumstances.

My background in health psychology and psycho-oncology allows me to work comfortably with people facing serious illness, chronic symptoms, medical uncertainty, treatment decisions, recovery, and survivorship. I also work with adults whose stress, relationships, alcohol use, or life circumstances may be affecting their overall health and well-being.

When appropriate and with the patient’s written permission, I am comfortable collaborating with physicians and other members of the treatment team.

Discuss a referral

A referral may be appropriate when a patient is:

  • Struggling emotionally after a diagnosis or change in health
  • Living with cancer or another chronic health condition
  • Experiencing high stress, burnout, or significant caregiving demands
  • Seeking to change her relationship with alcohol
  • Navigating perimenopause, menopause, or another major life transition
  • Facing relationship or family strain that is affecting her well-being
  • Functioning outwardly but clearly carrying more than she is able to manage comfortably
